Rational produces 150,000th SelfCooking Center®

On 30 March 2010, the 150,000th Rational SelfCooking Center® left the factory. Since the market launch back in 2004, some 25,000 units have been sent out every year to professional kitchens in company canteens, refectories, hotels, fast food chains and restaurants in around 85 countries. The SelfCooking Center® is regarded as a quantum leap in modern cooking technology.

The milestone unit will have a special stamp and is going to the Russian X5 Group, which includes the Perekrestok and Karusel supermarket chains. There are already more than 200 SelfCooking Center® units in use in those stores on their hot food counters.

“The need for food on the go is on the rise as prosperity increases. People expect high quality food at a reasonable price. The use of a SelfCooking Center® helps cushion the resulting cost pressure. The food offered at the hot food counter, for example, can be produced with excellent quality in the SelfCooking Center®,” explains Reinhard Banasch, member of the Rational AG Board.

Quality first

Besides food quality, the production quality is another important factor when choosing a specific cooking appliance. Used efficiently, a SelfCooking Center® can run around the clock in high performance mode. In the course of the assembly process it is given a solid body made from 100 kg stainless steel, a 10 kg insulated jacket, a heat-proof glass window and a wide range of electrical and electronic components. At the very heart of the unit is the software, however. This allows chefs to retrieve their country-specific cooking traditions.
And, last but not least, part of the company’s philosophy is that one employee should accompany the production process from start to finish and append his name as a seal of quality.
