Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, the Shaw Centre attracted over 40,500 out-of-town visitors during the 2013-2014 fiscal operating year, which boosted Ottawa’s economy by $77 million. Year after year, it hosts an abundance of trade shows, meetings, and various events that attract thousands of attendees.
One of the largest conferences it hosts is for the Financial Management Institute and over 2,500 breakfast and lunch meals are served within five days.
When Executive Chef Geoffrey Morden first came to the newly rebuilt convention centre in 2011, the kitchen was cluttered with old equipment. “One of our challenges is that the convention centre has six floors, so it took many staff to bring the food to different floors,“ states Executive Chef Morden.
