Scandinavian purist interiors with refined details and a glass front with an all-round view of the Cathedral and old town make Storstad the "place to be" in Regenburg. To get a table, you need to book weeks in advance. It's no wonder, because not only will the location and flair entice you, but the boss of the house too: Anton Schmaus, top chef and chef de cuisine for the German national football team.
At the relatively young age of 37, Mr Schmaus already has numerous international postings on his CV. Sweden, USA and Switzerland have had a decisive impact on his cooking style. He manages three locations in Regensburg. The Lower Bavaria native also speaks four foreign languages and in the opening year of Storstad was awarded one star in the Guide Michelin and 17 points in the Gault-Millau.
Mr Schmaus deserves his excellent reputation, he serves (depending on the time of day) surprise menus as he calls them with three or five courses.
Combining Mediterranean cuisine with regional influences, inspired by seasonal ingredients and completed with a touch of the exotic for a taste of home and abroad. From the bar there is a view of the kitchen where Mr Schmaus composes his imaginative creations using cutting-edge technology.
Based on the reputation for quality and flair Storstad is usually booked out however if there is no space in the restaurant, or if you want something more relaxed and casual, you can turn to the bar and enjoy the excellent bar food.
